A House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a residential property shared by three or more people who are not from a single household but share communal facilities such as a kitchen, bathroom, or toilet. HMOs historically have been commonly used for student accommodation, young professionals, or key workers. However, the Labour government have a clear policy to move asylum seekers out of hotels and into HMO accommodation.
Conversion of small properties into HMOs can be done without planning permission (C3 to C4) - this is known as "permitted development". There is no need to notify neighbours or the community for any conversions.
This Grade 2 Listed property in the Conservation Area was approved as a 20 occupant HMO by South Kesteven District Council councillors.
Proposed by:
Cllr Charmaine Morgan
Independent Grantham Councillor
Voted FOR:
Cllr David Bellamy
Reform UK Councillor
This approval highlights concerns about the scale and location of HMO conversions in Grantham's historic areas.
If you are aware of an HMO that is not shown on this map, please report it to us. All submissions will be reviewed and verified against public records before being added to the register.
